Frequently Asked Questions

FAQS

Have Gutter Questions? We Have The Answers.

General Gutter FAQ's:

Are seamless gutters better than sectional gutters?
Yes. Seamless gutters are custom-fabricated on-site to fit your roofline exactly, reducing seams where leaks commonly occur. Fewer seams mean better performance, longer lifespan, and a cleaner appearance.

Do you use subcontractors?
No. All work is completed by trained, in-house members of our team. This ensures consistent workmanship, accountability, and quality control on every job.

Are you fully insured?
Yes. Ackerman Seamless Gutters is fully insured for residential, commercial, and managed property work.

What warranties do you offer?
Qualifying installations include a 20-year material warranty and a 7-year workmanship warranty.

Free Estimate FAQ's:

Are your estimates really free?
Yes. All estimates are completely free with no obligation.

What happens during a free estimate?
We assess your roofline and gutter system, take measurements, identify problem areas, and provide clear recommendations with a written quote.

Do I need to be home for the estimate?
Usually no. As long as we can access the exterior, we can complete the estimate and follow up with details afterward.

How long does a free estimate take?
Most estimates take 10–20 minutes, depending on property size and complexity.

Will I be pressured to sign or decide on the spot?
No. We do not use high-pressure sales tactics. You decide on your timeline.

5" Seamless Gutter FAQ's:

Is a 5" gutter large enough for Michigan weather?
Yes, for most standard residential homes. Proper slope and downspout placement are key to performance.

Why do most homes use 5" gutters?
They provide a clean, proportional look while offering strong performance and value for average roof sizes.

When would a 5" gutter not be recommended?
Homes with steep roofs, large surface areas, metal roofs, or frequent overflow issues may benefit from 6" gutters instead.

Do 5" gutters clog more easily than 6"?
No. Clogging is usually caused by debris buildup or improper installation—not gutter size alone.

6" Seamless Gutter FAQ's:

What is the main advantage of 6" gutters?
They handle significantly more water and drain faster during heavy storms.

Are 6" gutters only for commercial buildings?
No. Many larger homes and steep rooflines benefit from 6" gutters.

Do 6" gutters look too large on a home?
When properly installed, they look clean and intentional—especially on larger or taller homes.

Do 6" gutters help prevent overflow?
Yes. Their wider channel and larger downspouts reduce overflow in high-volume areas.

Gutter Cleaning FAQ's:

How often should gutters be cleaned?
Most homes need cleaning once or twice per year. Heavily wooded properties may need more frequent service.

What happens if gutters aren’t cleaned?
Clogged gutters can overflow, sag, pull away, cause fascia rot, foundation issues, ice buildup, and attract pests.

Do you offer one-time cleanings and maintenance plans?
Yes. We offer both one-time cleanings and Bronze, Silver, and Gold maintenance plans.

Leaf Guard FAQ's:

Do leaf guards eliminate the need for gutter cleaning?
No. Leaf guards significantly reduce maintenance but do not eliminate it entirely.

How often should gutters with leaf guards be cleaned?
Typically every 1–3 years, depending on tree coverage and roof conditions.

What leaf guard systems do you install?
We install premium systems including Evelyn and Leaf Exterminator, selected based on your property’s needs.

Can leaf guards cause water to overshoot the gutter?
When properly installed, quality guards perform well. Overshoot is usually caused by poor installation or low-quality products.

Do leaf guards help with ice buildup?
They can reduce internal ice buildup but do not eliminate ice dams caused by insulation or ventilation issues.

Are leaf guards worth it?
For many homeowners, yes. They reduce cleaning frequency, improve performance, and extend gutter lifespan.

Color Options & Fading FAQ's:

What gutter color options are available?
We offer a wide range of standard colors designed to complement siding, trim, and roofing styles.

Are colors on the color chart an exact match?
No. Online or printed charts are for reference only. For the most accurate color, contact Ackerman or your dedicated salesperson to view a physical color swatch.

Do gutter colors fade over time?
Some gradual fading can occur over many years due to sun exposure, but premium finishes are designed to resist fading.

Does fading affect gutter performance?
No. Fading is cosmetic only and does not affect function.

Gutter Repair FAQ's:

How do I know if my gutters need repair or replacement?
Localized damage usually means repair is sufficient. Widespread issues or aging systems may require replacement. We’ll explain both options.

Can you repair only part of my gutter system?
Yes. We repair only what’s needed whenever possible.

What types of gutter repairs do you offer?
Leaks, sagging gutters, hanger replacement, crushed sections, slope corrections, downspout repairs, and storm damage.

Do gutter repairs permanently stop leaks?
When done correctly, yes. We focus on durable repairs—not temporary patches.

How long do repairs take?
Most repairs are completed in a single visit.

Do you offer free estimates for repairs?
Yes. All repair estimates are free and no-pressure.

Do you repair gutters for condos, HOAs, and apartments?
